So what is so great about digital book readers?  Digital readers are now moving from just being a gadget that gadget lovers desire and into the wider world. So what will make you purchase a digital book reader? What gains does an ebook reader get you?

The printed book has been our medium of choice for reading for hundreds of years, massive libraries exist with a book offering a value and feel (literally) all of it’s own.So for digital book readers to be able to overcome this history and familiarity they are going to have to offer some real benefits.

Proposed Benefits of Digital Book Readers

So what benefits can digital book readers bring to readers that they don’t get with a traditional book?

  • Most obviously less bulk! Whilst a digital book reader is roughly the same size as a book it can contain thousands of books inside it’s data banks (and any memory card’s). So when you are travelling there’s no need to carry half a suitcase worth of books, just a book sized digital reader
  • Instant downloads. Books are tangible objects, they need to be collected from shops or posted which means you need to wait or go get it.  Electronic Books (eBooks)of digital book readers can be downloaded on purchase, meaning you can start to enjoy as soon as you have bought it.
  • Storage space. Being an avid book reader it can be difficult to store all the books that you own.  Often people end up having to give their books away.  Wouldn’t it be better to instead be able to store them on a tiny little device such as a memory card? That is what an eBook can do for you.No need for shelves and shelves of books,or giving books away to freinds you may want to read again,just an easy to access and store system that takes up the space of one book.
  • Price. While a digital book reader can appear expensive the greatly lower price of ebooks v traditional books mean that if you are buying books on a frequent, or semi frequent, basis then you will save money.
  • Wear and tear.  Books suffer from wear and tear.Folding pages,yellowing, water damage, rips and more are something that any book owner knows about. With an eBook though they will never suffer such problems as they are kept in digital format. While it is possible for the digital book reader to get damaged(though they are sturdy items) your electronic book collection will still be unharmed, and can be taken to a new book reader if needed.
  • Varied Use. It is possible to~You can also}  use other kinds of documents on such readers, such as work reports or newspapers.  You get greater functionality with a digital book reader over that of a physical book.

These are some of the reasons that many people enjoy with a digital book reader.  More benefits exist and their importance will vary from person to person. Interesting to note that at at the moment the manufacturers and eBook publishers are not suggesting eBooks as something to replace traditional books, just an additional interest that will benefit those that like to read.
