Detroit job search
Here’s what you need to do to beat the odds in a Detroit job search:
1. Take an objective look at your most marketable and second most marketable skill sets
2. Package those skill sets, as if you were a commodity
3. Use the advanced search options of major browsers (Google, MSN, etc.) to quickly find the jobs most recently posted
4. Market yourself as an independent contractor, and be “willing” to accept a full-time job when one becomes available
5. Get friends to recommend friends who can recommend job opportunities for you-don’t focus on getting friends to recommend jobs. Friends of friends will provide you with many more leads.
6. Be willing to take a job in another city or state by telecommuting
7. Pick up a source of income that supplements unemployment while you are looking-there are many independent contractor positions available.
8. When “cold calling” companies to get job interviews, explain the reason for your call or drop by in 12 seconds or less.
9. Build a relationship with the receptionist or administrative assistant who answers the phone or sits at the reception desk. (Relationships require a series of contacts. You can’t do it in one call.)
10. Don’t try to get a job, aim for a job interview.
